    Checking Fuel Pressure

    Fuel pressure should be verified periodically to catch a failing pump, clogged filter, or regulator issue before it affects performance or strands you on track.

    Spec: 45 PSI at idle (42 PSI if your gauge has been individually calibrated)

    The 6-gallon cockpit fuel cell system includes a fuel pressure sensor that feeds the AiM dash. Fuel pressure is visible as a live channel on the AiM display without any additional tools. Check it at idle after the car has warmed up.

    Older cars with the 5-gallon tank system include an inline fuel pressure gauge mounted visibly in the engine bay. Read it directly at idle.

    If the gauge or AiM reading is unavailable, you can verify pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail:

    1. Ensure the car is cooled down and engine is off.
    2. Attach a fuel pressure gauge with a Schrader valve adapter to the valve on the injector rail.
    3. Start the engine and read at idle — spec is 45 PSI.
    4. If pressure is low, inspect the fuel filter before assuming a failing pump. See Cleaning Fuel Filter.
    5. Detach the gauge — the Schrader valve is self-sealing.

    The fuel flapper inside the 6-gallon cockpit tank can stick. Two failure signatures to know:

    • Appears to use very little fuel — the tank reads fuller than it actually is, so the car looks like it barely drank any fuel all weekend when it did not. Don’t trust the reading; confirm against pressure.
    • Out-of-fuel starvation — a stuck flapper can block fuel flow and starve the engine while fuel is still in the tank. The car stops responding to throttle as if it ran dry.

    If the car is not responsive to throttle and fuel delivery is suspected, check the flapper.

    The 6-gallon system also has a fuel level sender feeding the AiM dash — use it as a cross-check. It is not precise enough to read fuel quantity accurately, but it should indicate a 0-fuel condition. Keep track of what the sender reads at full and at empty on your own car so the reading means something. If the car loses throttle or seems to run dry but the sender still shows fuel in the tank, that points at a delivery fault (the flapper, pickup, or pump) rather than an empty tank.

    The 6-gallon system’s fuel pressure sensor feeds the AiM dash, and that channel can be configured on the dash. Configure it so fuel pressure is visible — a starving or flapper condition then shows up as pressure dropping before the car ever feels out of fuel.
